Darlene's hair will stay up, loosely secured by pins, through the tea ceremony. Once the wedding starts she can pull out her side bun and leave her hair half up and half down.

Destination wedding in Fiji (hairstylist can't fit in my suitcase)

Hey Ladies . . . . planning a destination wedding? Here's how to do your own hair when you tie the knot on a remote island.

This is Jessie, she's getting married in less than two weeks in Fiji. She commissioned Frederick's Beauty Salon to teach her an up do she can do on herself. Yep, that's right, an up do done on herself by herself.

The following items will be needed . . . . .

HAIRSPRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SHINE SPRAY

TEXTURIZER

FLAT IRON

RAT TAILED BACKCOMBER

CURLING IRON

RUBBERBAND

DUCK BILLED CLIPS

BOBBY AND ROLLERPINS

BUTTERFLY CIPS

HAIR BLING (these flowers were options two and three, Jessie's option #1 is in her pics)

Step by Step, Start to Finish . . . . .

1. Start with 100% dry hair (preferrably one day dirty)

2. Section off hair and secure up and out of the way with butterfly clips. Begin curling.

3. Once this up do is complete, your ends will mainly be what's showing, so make sure the ends are curled all the way. Best way to make sure the ends aren't left straight is to SLOWLY draw the iron to just above the ends. Then twirl the iron till it's almost touching the scalp. Then SLOWLY and SOFTLY twirl and click the handle so the ends disapear into the rest of the hair being curled.

4. Slightly curl with a flat iron the pieces around the face. Using the curling iron makes the hair around the face TOO curly and this is how foreheads get burnt :-) When curling with the flat iron, take small pieces, hold the hair out from the head and instead of pulling straight out with the flat iron, crank your wrist and drag the iron toward your shoulder. Duck billed clips help out here, notice how they're holding hair out of the way, you can also use them to part the hair into small pieces.

5. SPRAY!!! with lots and lots of hair spray, fluff it, flip it upside down, then spray it more.

6. Put in low side pony tail

7. Get your tray all set up and within reach, you're going to want those bobby pins close to you!

8. Jessie chose a head band with silk ties (super slippery so tricky to get in the hair). Place head band and secure with duck billed clips. With duck billed clips in place, you can tie the silky bands in back without the head band slipping off of your head. Once the band is tied, put a couple bobby pins over the part where it's tied.

9. Part the pony tail into two, slightly backcombed sections. Sprinkle in texturizer. Treat these two sections like shoelaces and tie them in a knot.

10. Flip the knot up and hold against the head. You'll want to see your pony tail holder underneath or at the bottom of the knot. Begin inserting Roller pins.

11. Once knot is secured, you'll have curly ends hanging about. Just place and pin what's left over. Since this up do is supposed to look a little "messy" there is no wrong way to pin here.

12. Sprinkle in more texturizer if needed, spray the hell out of it and then finish off with shine spray.

When the lights go out

Business as usual today at Fredericks and then BAM . . . . . . . the lights went out. The whole block went black. Thank gawd it was a sunny day, we just moved all of our clients out to the sidewalk.
